Hurricane Michael Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Relief (CDBG-DR)
The Florida Department of Commerce (FC) has made available $112 million in CDBG-DR funding to local governments impacted by Hurricane Michael through the Rebuild Florida General Infrastructure Repair Program. For this funding allocation the Town of Malone has received funding for three separate projects. Each project that town currently has open is listed below with a brief summary of the project scope of work as well as the current status update.

Critical Fire Station Restoration (M0021)
The Town of Malone has been awarded $2,037,335.00 in CDBG-DR funds to rebuild and strengthen the Malone fire department. Wind and rain from Hurricane Michael caused significant damage to the building. The project will take the building back down to its foundation and rebuild it completely so that it will be able to better withstand future disaster events and provide greater functionality for town staff.
This project is currently under design by the Town’s contracted Engineer – David H. Melvin, Inc. Once design is complete, the town will initiate the competitive bid process to solicit sealed bids from qualified construction contractors. The Grant is being administered by the Town’s contracted grant administrator – David H. Melvin, Inc.
Townwide Stormwater Improvements (M0111)
The Town of Malone has been awarded $3,041,300.00 in CDBG-DR funds to construct city-wide stormwater improvements. This includes construction of stormwater management facilities, installation and replacement of drainage pipes and culverts, and ditch stabilization and widening. This stormwater project has many areas within the town limits and includes sites located along the following roadways: 9th Avenue, 11th Avenue, 11th Street, 12th Street, 13th Avenue, 13th Street, & 14th Street.
This project is currently in the Environmental Review phase which is being completed by the Town with the assistance of the Town’s contracted Engineer – David H. Melvin, Inc. Once design is complete, the town will initiate the design process to ready the project for construction contract procurement. The Grant is being administered by the Town’s contracted grant administrator – David H. Melvin, Inc.
Downtown Business Repair Project (M0046)
The Town of Malone has been awarded $424,404.77 in CDBG-HR funds for the completion of various interior and exterior renovations to the commercial buildings located at 5406 10th Street, 5408 10th Street, and 5417 10th Street located in downtown Malone, FL. These buildings were heavily damaged by Hurricane Michael. Renovation/Repair activities include but are not limited to; demolition, insulation, painting, ceiling repair, masonry, electrical wiring, lighting, plumbing, HV/AC replacement, flooring, doors, frames, windows and exterior awnings.
This project is currently in the bidding phase to solicit a qualified construction contractor to perform the project repair activities. Project design was completed by the town’s contracted engineer David H. Melvin, Inc. The Grant is being administered by the Town’s contracted grant administrator – David H. Melvin, Inc.
