CDBG-MIT

In April of 2018, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced that $633 million in first-of-its-kind Community Development Block Grant – Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) funding would be available to the state of Florida for disaster mitigation projects in areas impacted by presidentially declared disasters in 2016 and 2017. On February 02, 2021, HUD announced an additional $46.9 million in federal mitigation funding for communities impacted by Hurricane Michael. To access the funding, the Department worked with state agencies and community partners to draft a substantial amendment to the existing State Action Plan for CDBG-MIT funding. As part of this funding, the Town of Malone received funds to complete one project as outlined below.

Public Works Critical Protection Facility (MT142)

The Town of Malone has been awarded One Million Seven Hundred Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($1,700,000.00) of CDBG-MIT funds to build a Critical Protection Facility for Town Public Works operations to replace the damaged, substandard pole barn structure currently being used. The building will withstand hurricane force winds and possess enough storage space to sufficiently house heavy equipment, tools, and other essential resources vital for emergency operations and response.

This project is currently in the Environmental Review phase which is being completed by the Town with the assistance of the Town’s contracted Engineer – David H. Melvin, Inc. Once design is complete, the town will initiate the design process to ready the project for construction contract procurement. The Grant is being administered by the Town’s contracted grant administrator – David H. Melvin, Inc.

If any citizen, would like additional information on these projects or would like to view information related to these projects such as grant agreements, procurement records, or environmental review information please contact Linda Wilson, Town Clerk at 850-569-2308 or email clerk@malonefl.net.
